J. Stokley Ligon papers, [ca. 1959].

This collection houses an edited manuscript of Ligon's New Mexico bird book, New Mexico birds and where to find them (1961). A virtually complete draft of the text is included and it is full of editorial marks and comments by Ligon and his editors at the University of New Mexico Press. In addition, one folder contains correspondence between Ligon and his editor. An addition, processed in 2007 contains field notebooks on birds and mammals (mostly, NM), as well as notes, research and manuscript materials pertaining to predatory animals (wolves, bears, coyotes), animal sitings, and Ben Lilly.
